I grew up in a denomination that preached a works-based faith, emphasizing that a relationship with God is achieved through one’s own doing. During high school, as I scrolled through TV channels, I heard about Jesus in a different light compared to the messages I heard every Saturday for 14 years. The Lord used that to ignite a desire to know Him more, and eventually everything unraveled at a local YMCA youth Bible study, where I heard Romans 10:9 for the first time. I realized that I can do nothing to be at peace with God, but it is only through Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection. Consequently, the Lord instilled a burden for the lost and brokenhearted to know that there is hope in a broken world, and through Campus Outreach, this burden transformed into a longing to see others immerse themselves in a solid Christian community.
